Freeport-McMoRan (FCX) is a leading international mining company with headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona. FCX operates large, long-lived, geographically diverse assets with significant proven and probable reserves of copper, gold and molybdenum.

Our summer intern program is tailored to individuals who are currently enrolled in mining or business-related degrees as full-time students at an accredited, four-year college or university in North America. Internships typically run from mid-May to mid-August. Freeport-McMoRan's intern program has been referred to as one of the top intern programs in the mining industry. Under close supervision, assists in the development and production of various internal communications publications and programs including, but not limited to:

  • Developing and producing print and radio advertisements for use in the company’s community communications efforts, including writing and editing copy

  • Assisting in developing and updating company informational websites

  • Assisting in updating the company recruiting website

  • Assisting in the updating the company intranet

  • Assisting with information and data gathering for recruiting and career development materials

  • Proofreading of various employee communications

  • Performing other duties as required

  • Following all safety procedures and rules applicable to working conditions

Minimum Qualifications

  • Full-time student pursuing Bachelor's or Master's degree in journalism, public relations, mass communications, marketing or related field; OR

  • Recent college graduate having graduated within 12 months prior to internship start date with a degree in journalism, public relations, mass communication, marketing, or related field

  • Ability to use publishing and website development software

  • Strong writing and editing skills

  • Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards

  • Good interpersonal skills

  • Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English

  • Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards

  • Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment
