Under close supervision, assist in Mining Geomechanical Engineering processes including pit slope and stockpile stability, instrumentation and serve as resource for geomechanical information and analysis.
Responsible for overall property slope management functions for pit slopes, stockpiles, and tailings
Manage and provide geotechnical project oversight and review relating to outside consultants, pit slope water control, structural geology, design slope angles and interfacing with mine design and planning
Manage and review slope stability data collection, analysis and remedial work including slope monitoring data processing, rock strength parameters, geologic structures, slope control blast designs, and slope angle reviews
Communicate accurate, timely and relevant slope stability and geotechnical information to mine and site personnel
Manage, conduct and communicate the results of inspections of pit walls, stockpiles, and site access roads
Proactively seek improvements to the safe mining of mine reserves relating to slope monitoring, slope maintenance, slope and catch bench designs, blasting, geotechnical data acquisition and analyses
Develop, maintain and implement strategic plans to enhance the mine's slope stability program
May represent the site on company sponsored steering teams related to geotechnical or mine slope stability efforts
Show understanding in the usage of appropriate software (MS Office, AutoCAD) and Geotechnical data analysis, Mintec's MineSight (or equivalent)
Perform other duties as required
Bachelor's degree in Mining, Geological, Geotechnical Engineering or related Engineering discipline
Knowledge in the principles and practices of Mining, Mining Engineering and Geotechnical applications in a hard rock open pit mine environment
Skilled at researching, analyzing and communicating information of considerable difficulty and develop appropriate conclusions and action plans
Skilled in managing Engineering projects related to a hard rock open pit setting
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing to a diversely educated audience
Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety
Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards
Master's degree in Mining Engineering or Geological Engineering, with courses in Rock Mechanics and Hydrogeology.
Experience with knowledge in Slope Stability Software (Eg. Rocscience: Slide, Rocfall, etc), MineSight and AutoCAD.
Active open pit slope monitoring experience including planning and execution process.
Prior experience with mining operations and in generating practical solutions to multi-faceted technical challenges.
Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English
Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards
Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, demonstrate manual dexterity, climb stairs and ladders, work on elevated platforms, talk, hear and see
Occasionally may be required to lift moderately heavy objects up to thirty (30) pounds during the course of the workday
Work is performed in a mine or manufacturing plant setting, which may include exposure to extremes in temperature and humidity, moving mechanical parts, risk of electrical shock, toxic chemicals, explosives, fumes or airborne particles
Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required
