Freeport McMoRan Chief Metallurgist in Chino, New Mexico
Job Duties: Under limited supervision, plan, organize, supervise, and evaluate metallurgical testing and analysis at assigned site. Establish metallurgical performance targets for site. Supervise and develop metallurgical staff. Define metallurgical reporting targets. Report metallurgical or process issues/problems, complete data analysis and make recommendations to appropriate site management for correction or operational improvement opportunities. Supervise or may serve as technical expert on the most complex metallurgical testing. Contribute to site strategic planning and budgeting efforts for metallurgical testing. Provide guidance and counsel to the site management team on applicable programs, practices and existing/proposed local, state and federal regulations. Maintain current working knowledge of applicable federal, state and local regulations. Contribute to the preparation of technical reports. Provide data analysis, economic evaluations and production forecasts. Supervise or review, investigate and troubleshoot forecasts and other operational data. Determine cause of production shortfalls and recommend solutions. Review, recommend and implement new or enhanced testing equipment or protocols. Evaluate and administer contracts with vendors for the provision of services and equipment. May represent the site on company-sponsored steering teams.
Minimum Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Metallurgy, Chemistry or related engineering discipline and seven (7) years of experience in Metallurgy or closely related scientific field including lead or supervisory experience. In the alternative, we will accept a Master’s degree in Metallurgy, Chemistry or related engineering discipline and five (5) years of experience in Metallurgy or closely related scientific field including lead or supervisory experience. Any suitable combination of education, training, or experience is acceptable.

• Ability to anticipate technical needs, drive and optimize complex metallurgical test work based on complex data analysis and make recommendations for process improvement changes.
